We adjusted the Free API tier by reducing chain coverage by roughly 10%, maintaining a 90% chain coverage. We want to explain why this change was necessary and how it affects you.
Over the past year, many chains have significantly increased block speeds, TPS, and overall transaction volume. While this growth is positive for the ecosystem, it has also substantially raised the resource demands required to support full multichain coverage at the scale of the Free tier.
Continuing to offer free API access across all supported chains had begun to impact overall service quality, including for high-volume chains backed by strong foundation support. To prevent broader degradation, we made the difficult decision to limit the Free API tier coverage to selected chains (90% coverage). You can refer to docs.etherscan.io/supported-chains for the list of chains that remain included in the Free API tier. However, all verified contract related endpoints including source code, ABI, and verification continue to remain fully available across all supported networks, even under the Free API tier.
To ensure that users who still need access to those chains have an affordable option, we introduced a discounted Lite plan, priced at 25% of the previous lowest paid tier. This plan provides continued access to full chain coverage at a significantly reduced cost.
